how much sleep do i need

Sleeping is crucial for your good mood, but also for your health and focus. Without the right amount of sleep every day, your productivity can decrease and your well-being, let’s face it, won’t be in the best shape. What can you do not to let it happen? Well, first of all, you should identify how much sleep you need – and then, start implementing it in your lifestyle. Sounds difficult? Find out how to overcome it.

How much sleep do people need?

There is no universal answer to this question, however, many studies do agree with each other that an average person should sleep 8 hours. For those who work a lot, run their own business or… have kids, eight hours may sound like it is too much, eight hours is an area of dreams in terms of sleeping. Although the number eight is the perfect number of hours identified by many as necessary ones to feel better, a lot of people decide to sleep less due to many reasons – work, kids, or their own wellbeing.

Basically, you should sleep as long as you need it – if you feel better with sleeping 6 hours instead of 8 hours, let it be! Some people believe that if they sleep in any number of intervals lasting 1,5 hours, they can sleep better – so they sleep either 4,5 or 6 or 7,5 hours, but try not to get to eight hours at all.

Can you sleep too long? Many people dream about sleeping all days, but it is not too wise, either. Sleeping too long can also negatively affect your concentration, mood and well-being.

  • set up your routine and try to stick to it – if you go to sleep at 11 pm and wake up at 7 am, try to take it as an exemplary routine
  • exercise a few hours before you go to bed – it does not mean that you should be dog tired when you get to bed, but a bit of activity can positively impact your health
  • don’t eat anything super heavy for your dinner – but also don’t go to sleep hungry since you can be really distracted and anxious
  • power naps during the day are great as long as they do not impact your night sleep – if you nap during the day but can’t fall asleep at night, it may be a sign for you to change your habits a bit
